The streak is broken, but Apayao is not backing down.
After finishing as first runner-up in the last three Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) meets, Apayao slipped to second runner-up in the 2025 edition, bagging 36 gold, 50 silver, and 83 bronze medals after a grueling five-day competition co-hosted by the Province of Benguet and Baguio City.
It was not the finish the delegation had hoped for, but considering the odds stacked against them, the performance was commendable. yApayao athletes trained under difficult conditions after multiple typhoons hammered the province last year, forcing class suspensions for more than a month and cutting into their preparation time. This year, nonstop rains added to the challenge, making training even tougher. But for the athletes and coaches, there were no excuses—only a hunger to come back stronger next year.
Despite the setback, the Eagles remained dominant in their strongholds. Gymnastics and chess, the perennial gold mines for the delegation, once again delivered and kept the province in the upper tier of the medal tally. The woodpushers secured 8 out of the possible 16 gold medals, a display of mastery on the board. Meanwhile, the agile eagles amassed 21 medals, with 12 coming from aerobic gymnastics alone after they swept the tournament and claimed an unshakable grip on gold.
For the past three CARAA meets, Apayao had been an undeniable force, securing first runner-up finishes in 2024, 2023, and 2019. The province even played host in 2019 and 2024, where they did not disappoint the homecrowd.
This year’s results may sting, but the fire is far from extinguished. With a full year to regroup and rebuild, the Eagles are already setting its sights on a stronger comeback in 2026.
Nonetheless, the Apayao Eagles have carved their story in blood, sweat, and tears. They have weathered storms, trained through adversity, and stood tall when it mattered most. To the Apayao Eagles, we offer admiration. To the yApayao athletes, your fire burns bright, and your spirit soars beyond the podium.
The success of the Palarong Panlalawigan is owed to everyone of us and to all our provincial, municipal, barangay , and PTA officials, NLAs and other stakeholders…maraming salamat mga kasama…especially we thank the Lord for the favorable weather and for His protection and provision…we enjoin everyone to pray for another success during the CARAA MEET 2025… God bless Apayao…

NEA, DepEd Sign Pact To Energize Off-grid Schools Through Solar Projects
Published: 06 February 2025
The National Electrification Administration (NEA) and the Department of Education (DepEd) officially entered into a partnership Wednesday, 05 February 2025, to install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in far-off schools that remain without reliable access to electricity.
NEA Administrator Antonio Mariano Almeda signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Education Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara in the presence of [Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla], University of the Philippines (UP) President Angelo Jimenez, and other stakeholders.
“We are forging a partnership that holds the promise of brighter futures and opportunities for students in underserved communities,” said Administrator Almeda in his remarks at the signing ceremony hosted by the NEA in Diliman, Quezon City.
“This moment reflects a shared vision and a unified effort to address one of the most vital aspects of development—ensuring that every child, regardless of how remote their location may be, has access to the transformative power of education and electricity,” he pointed out.
Under the agreement, the DepEd is tasked with identifying and prioritizing schools needing electrification; facilitating the necessary permits from concerned local government units; and providing counterpart logistical and financial support to execute the project.
Meanwhile, the NEA, through its partner electric cooperatives (ECs), will provide technical
assistance in setting up the solar PV panels, monitoring its system, and conducting further evaluations to ensure the project's completion.
“This initiative paves the way for a transformative shift in rural education, enabling the integration of modern teaching methods, expanding access to online resources, and equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in today’s digital world,” Administrator Almeda said.
On another note, the Agency shall mandate the ECs to refrain from imposing any charges, fees or cost in relation to the maintenance and sustainability of this project. This as a form of Corporate Social Responsibility and a re-affirmation of NEA and the ECs commitment to better the lives of our fellow Filipinos.
The NEA chief thanked the DepEd, the Department of Energy, the ECs and other stakeholders for supporting this program. It was a collaboration that took years to develop and was frequently discussed during recent budget deliberations.
According to the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2) of those public schools which have no access to electricity—a third are found in remote and conflict-stricken communities in Cotabato, Palawan, Sulu, Zamboanga del Sur and Negros Oriental.
The NEA and DepEd will jointly oversee the implementation of the program. Funding for this initiative will be drawn from various sources, including but not limited to national or local government allocations, private institution grants and partnerships, or other approved financial mechanisms.
